3D Printing, Where it All Begins

In 2020 during the Pandemic, a friend printed a 3D puzzle for me and I was enthralled by the idea of making anything I could image. Of course if you know me, I jumped straight into the hobby head first. I got a Prusa Mini and started printing anything and everything I saw.

My friend sent me a tiktok of a 3D printed Ocarina. We both thought it was so cool, we spun up our 3D printers and started printing. I was ecstatic when it was done, perfectly printed and I can play Saria’s Song!

That when it hit me, The fact that someone on the other side of the world gave me a file, a machine is putting molten plastic in a pattern, and now we have the SAME ITEM in 2 different parts of the world. Its the real world CTRL+C and CTRL+V! That blew my mind. After that I had to share my feeling of amazement and potential of 3D printing. It made me feel so happy, I wanted to share the feeling!

Oh hey, I can make that!

the next few months was looking at everything in a new light. It was almost like the first time I started climbing. Everything became a “problem” that I knew I could “solve” with this new ability of Making. Cups and hangers were V1 - V2, phone cases and clocks were V3/V4, then the, “Oh hell, that kid flashed it and that old man climbed that 100% controlled” V6+ with Sculptures and Masks.

My curiosity kept expanding and I wanted to keep making more things, then the AI boom happened in Dec 2022

The AI Era: Sticker Edition

ChatGPT and Midjourney were my main weapons of choice during this past year. I saw so much potential in AI for summarizing information and making anyone a psuedo professional in the pencil pushing world.

Need a legal contract, “ChatGPT, write me a legal contract”

need to understand the legal contract? “ChatGPT, explain to me the legal contract”

With the power of AI, I can do anything! muahahahaha

but do you know what I did with that power

I made stickers.

Stickers.

Yes stickers.

But why?

because its fun!

On a more serious note, I felt like MidJourney was the key to unlocking my creativity. I felt like my brain has all these ideas but I had no way to express them. I can’t really draw, explaining sounds crazy, and there was no Inner Mind camera made yet at the time.

MidJourney felt like the translation tool I needed to convert my crazy thoughts into REAL images.

oh yeah btw, I got a Cricut maker at this point. I REALLY wanted to make those stickers. And some t-shirts. Because hey, I COULD make that >.>

Then seeing my crazy ideas printed out, then cut out and put in my hands as a sticker made me so happy. It unlocked another feeling for me, the idea that a THOUGHT, something that doesn’t weigh an ounce, something that doesn’t physically exist, into something that I can hold in my hand, something that I can hold, touch, turn, flip and examine. Its real and it came from MY IMAGINATION. That’s insane! The Power of Creation, its so fulfilling in a way I haven’t felt before. omg I cant be the only creative person, everyone else must be this creative too, I need to share this! they just need to have it unlocked!
